About Candles to Sunlight

Hello Reader,

My name is Lily - welcome to Candles to Sunlight.

This name "Candles to Sunlight" is based mainly on the idea that Jesus is the Light of the World (John 1) and that He is the One that illuminates this world. From the prophets in the Old Testament all the way to New Testament, everyone was simply pointing towards the light, though they were able to testify God's power, they themselves were not the light.  It is like a candle, which can shine dimly, but is far, far outshone by pure sunlight. And once you know this true and good light, everything pales and dims in comparison, and you never want to live in darkness again. We have progressed from candles to sunlight.

A bit more about myself, I was born in China and raised in Canada from an early age. I recently completed my undergraduate degree in International Development at the University of Ottawa. Theologically, I have had experiences primarily in Chinese evangelical churches (although also influenced by Pentecostal churches as well). Currently, I am is interested in careers in which advocacy, social justice, and faith meet. My life goal is to have a daily curiosity about the world around us and an unbroken compassion for others.

I started this blog mainly on a whim and out of curious musings that I have during Bible readings and books that I read. It is filled with a collection of random musings and thoughts that I have and is more like a journal entry than anything else. Excuse me in advance for many half-baked ideas ahead! I mean for this blog to be more casual and in which I jot down thoughts that I may have which don't necessarily have any definite answer and/or clear resolution. If you're looking for a blog with clear lessons and very concrete concepts in which you're able to learn a lot from, this may not be it. But I believe that I am journeying along this path of faith just like any other, and if you have similar questions and/or musings, it's nice to know we can figure things out together :)

Additionally, this blog is secondary to a main blog in which I co-author with another dear sister in Christ. Check it out if you like what you see here: seedofaith.blogspot.comThat blog is much more concrete and the blog posts will be more structured and framed. Anything that I have done more extensive research and ponderings on, will most likely end up there instead.

Lastly, this blog is meant to glorify God because He deserves all the praise and glory. However, with that being said, because this blog documents my journey in Christ, it is natural that I will raise questions and challenges to certain status quos and or church/Biblical practices that I do not understand and/or am questioning. Although this may seem defiant and/or even rebellious towards God, please understand that it is not my intention for these things to deter people from Christ. Instead, I believe that if we are to truly journey along our faith, we have to constantly be asking questions so we can grow more. Ask and you shall receive, right?

I thus kindly ask everyone to read my blog with the understanding that no matter what I write or any questions I may have, they will never alter my faith in Christ and that fundamentally I ask these questions with the intention of seeking Him more and knowing Him better. I hope that you can be blessed by this blog as I have been blessed while writing it.

To Him be the glory, Amen.
